The retrieving mechanism is very sturdy and does not contain easily damaged components. The pick-up principle is simple. Drop the end over the ball and drag toward you a short distance. A movable bar slides under the ball and keeps it from falling out the bottom. The telescoping sections of the shaft lock easily. The cover has a double zipper that would be a nice feature on regular club head covers.
I purchased the 12 foot model thinking it would fit "in" the bag. It fits in the bag with the clubs, not in the pocket of the bag. Since I have 14 slots in my bag I can now only carry 13 clubs. On the other hand, reaching out 12 feet puts it out where a few ripples on the water make it hard to judge where to reach the ball. A 15 footer would be way too long. a 6 footer is too short. The ideal tool would be around 10 feet and would fit inside the golf bag pocket. Reaching for balls too far out in the water can waste a lot of time and slow a round of golf.
I am first on the course Monday mornings so I paid for the Ztech (in playable balls found) in three rounds.
